Synopsis :
1953, à New York. Un ancien drogué, Bill Lee, devenu exterminateur de cafards, est mis sous les verrous par deux agents de la brigade des stupéfiants. Dans le commissariat, un insecte géant le charge d'une étrange commission à transmettre dans le cadre d'une incompréhensible mission d'espionnage. Tout à sa tâche, Bill Lee découvre que sa femme se drogue avec de la poudre insecticide. Le docteur Benway lui prescrit un puissant narcoleptique mais, à son retour, Bill Lee constate que sa femme le trompe avec deux amis à la fois. Il cause accidentellement sa mort et s'enfuit dans le secteur international de Tanger, Interzone, où un extraterrestre, un Mugwump, le rejoint...
